Inherited Maternal and Paternal Risk Factors for MCI and Dementia Lead Investigator: Scott Neu Institution : Keck School of Medicine of USC E-Mail : sneu@usc.edu Proposal ID : 994 Proposal Description: This proposal aims to determine how individuals? risks for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia are affected by maternal and paternal histories of cognitive impairment. Although parental history of Alzheimer?s disease (AD) is an established risk factor for the development of AD, there are conflicting studies on whether maternal transmission is more significant than paternal transmission (due to small sample sizes), and little research has focused on risks for MCI. The proposed research is to conduct a meta-analysis on data from collaborating research studies in the Global Alzheimer?s Association Interactive Network (GAAIN, www.gaain.org). Logistic regression will be used to compute odds ratios of risks for MCI and dementia between individuals with different maternal and paternal histories of cognitive impairment.
